Kings of the Compact

Whatever happens, what was traditionally the first month of summer will see a great change in the Freehold, and its oath laws. Until this point, the rightful seasonal king will be sitting upon the throne, chosen before the Fallen Hunt. This month sees someone new. The compact will come out, and revisions will be made. This will occur May 31.

The night began with King Uxbridge holding a minor court, with both the Winter King, Scarecrow King and Bobby 13-Times sitting with him. Though it was not spoken of earlier, they had a game amongst themselves over who could inspire their emotion the most in the evening. It opened with King Uxbridge berating Warden Hart, naming him “Lord Upstart” and giving him a 2×2 parcel of land at the edge of his domain. Shortly thereafter, a question of who would be Summer King arose. It was a difficult question, as none of the court was present at that moment. Fortunately, Quincy Knight presented himself as a candidate. None of the other Summer courtiers were in attendance. The evening of the kings was largely dominated by this process, of making Quincy jump through hoops to be the King. Early in the evening, Shade arrived, and started to integrate with society.

Shortly after sending Quincy off for his first task, the court was visited by the Fetch of Mr. Occam, who had killed the Jack Ketch earlier last month. He wanted equal rights for Fetches, complaining about the murdering Changelings. One of him was killed by the Winter Champion, but there was a second copy in existence. This was taken eventually by Bobby 13-Times and the Scarecrow King for experimentation. The death at the hands of the Winter Champion was likely a kinder fate.

The Courtless had a few things on their agenda. First, Sif opened the envelope containing the secret information purchased from Bobby, asking about Bobby. She got a massive pile of materials, including all sorts of drawings, photos, notes, a CD, ads as well as bacon. Portions of the evening were spent trying to figure out meaning. Second, there Warden Hart joined the courtless in their motley, finding the great courts distasteful. Third, there was a question of Nulm, and how to solve it.

Quincy’s trials were numerous. He needed to sit upon the throne of Elagabalus in his hall, to out drink the goblin Squeek, known as drinking champion of the goblins near Bridgeberry (in a contest of Whiskey, Malaise and “Wonderland”- a concoction made from LSD and experimental powdered Bobbyjuice); defeat the Winter King in Chess, which he did so by somehow leading the Winter King to be unable to move his piece in the time limit and therefore forfeit when he should have won; win a duel with who would match him (which ended up being the oracle); and Ultimately just seizing the crown for his own. That made him Summer King, though not yet compacted.

Conversation continued about the roles of the Summer and Spring Kings, such as what they should do and boxing horses, about Nulm, about the prophecies, about the future. As well, the kings tried to determine who won their game. It seems that the Scarecrow King had, with all the fears being bandied about. Bobby eventually offered some insight about one of the Oracle’s prophecies, and a secret drawing was found on the information package on Bobby 13-Times (behind the label). It was a strange picture entitled “The Sultan’s Court”. Everyone dispersed soon after that.
