WinterCon

Our annual LARPing event for this time of year! Three one shots, ran by three Story Tellers, for one great weekend!

First Game: Fri 7-11
The Thralls Will Play
MUMPS Lounge U of S

Saskatoon is not a large city but it still needs to be looked over. Maintaining the Masquerade and ensuring certain problems do not show themselves. It used to be that the many children of Cain would look after things, but that was a long time ago now there are only 4 vampires to ensure control over the city. So the battle began over the most influential people of the city, people from every walk of life now caught in a web of blackmail, lies and blood. The first meeting of Elysiym is about to occur, Do you have an invitation?
The Thralls Will Play is a one shot live action role playing game using the Mind’s Eye Theater Laws of the Night rules

Second Game: Sat 12-5
Dresden Files: Young Blood
Good Shepard Lutheran Church
1215 McKercher Drive

A year ago, Saskatoon had the misfortune of being ground zero for the summoning of a monstrous and otherworldly Outsider – and since, things just haven’t been the same. Something about the city is off. The Nevernever is growing more and more corrupted. But amongst all that weirdness, the thing that strikes the closest to home is the effect it’s been having on the cities young supernatural population. They’re going to need help, but that just leads to a more difficult problem; who can they actually trust?

SLARPcon 2010

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Here is the lineup for SLARPcon 2010.

Friday Night
Bridges to a Better You
ST: Ruby Piepgrass (with Cory and Tyler)
(Mythos Humour)

Bridges to a Better You
Secluded Retreat for Spiritual Cleansing and Metaphysical Enlightenment

A spiritual enlightenment retreat inspired by Cthulhu live. The players are trying to overcome personal foibles and dysfunctions in order to reach their spiritual and metaphysical potential. Characters will participate in “supernatural” group building and self development exercises. As the meeting continues weirdness and insanity ensue.

The team that brought you the excellent BSG game at Barrycon (as well as the ongoing Hunter chronicle “Within”) are back with this Dark Comedic offering.  Though relatively new to running games, they do excellent work.  We are happy to be hosting another one of their games.

Saturday Afternoon
The Fourth Draught
ST: Jill Bell
(Cthulhu Live)

A period (1920s) Cthulhu live game, where the players are ordinary people thrust into contact with the darkness that is the mythos.

The executive is happy to finally (after years of trying) to be able to present a game by Jill, former Saskatoon by Night Storyteller (way back in the day), as well of organizer of many other games over the years.  Currently she is storytelling Providence (a monthly Kingdom Come chronicle) in Regina.

Characters for this game are very limited, and available on a first come, first served basis.  Contact Jill as soon as possible if you want to play, as I suspect that it will fill up well before the convention.

Saturday Night
Against Themselves
ST: Trent Yacuk
(Kingdom Come)

Madness seems to have infected the White Court of New Antioch, after they slaugthered the majorty of Infernal residing there. The White King has claimed that all is now well and that seems content to lead the Civitas to victory in the Last Crusade.

There exists no politic reprecusions in the Codex for such an audacious and awful act. Quite simply by the treaties of the Codex, they cannot be considered Divine but Bygone (without Conviction). Still, there are several Deistical and a handful of Divine and Infernal who are still in New Antioch who either want to fix things or get out.

Enter the Convocation of Blood. A formerly secret alliance of Heralds who have announced, to concerned Kings of other Civitas’, that they will attempt to handle this situation and hopefully to negotiate a peaceful surrend of this Civitas and install a new White and Black Court.

The Convocation brings an offering of peace, but sending so many Black Heralds into New Antioch make some certain that this meeting with the mad White King will only end in violence.

Trent is the author of Kingdom Come, and offers up an awesome scenario.  A headliner of the first two SLARPcons, we are thrilled to have him back running another game for us.

Sunday Afternoon
The Union’s Meet and Greet Picnic (for greater villainous efficiency)
ST: Kyle Yaworski (with Andrew)
(Horrific Intent)

The Criminal Union for Dastardly Deeds and Licentious Endeavours’s annual
meet-and-greet social has rolled around once more. Villains of all stripes have shown up to renew tenuous truces and forge fresh hatred. What new terrors will be unleashed this fiscal year?

This is an extremely light game for the Sunday afternoon time slot, very social while at the same time still being a game, based on the worlds of inept supervillainy found in such sources as the Venture Brothers, The Tick, Mystery Men, and Dr. Horrible.  It is also an excuse to have a BBQ, which I am all for.

Kyle is a new LARP storyteller, having only run a few playtests of Horrific Intent before this.  That being said, all of his limited game running experience has been a blast, and this one looks to be no different.  Horrific Intent is the type of game that I could easily see becoming a mainstay in the community (and I am not just saying that because I helped write it).

Sunday Evening
Thicker Blood
ST: Wade Lahoda
(Houses of the Blooded)

Ambition. Lust. Revenge. You cannot have one without the others.

Thousands of years ago, the ven ruled the world. They were a passionate people, obsessed with Romance and Revenge, opera and theater, and all the forbidden delights their decadent culture provided. In the end, that which made them beautiful was also the key to their own destruction. Houses of the Blooded is a game about tragic obsession. Set in the fantastic world of ven myth and legend, players take the roles of powerful characters bent on conquering their world, destroying their enemies and possessing all they desire. Six noble Houses play an elaborate, invisible game of deception and betrayal. Forbidden by law from declaring open war, their secret wars allow for more subtle weapons: seduction, espionage and assassination.

In Thicker Blood, the ven gather to celebrate and affirm the anniversy of a life giving union – a marriage that supposedly ended an old and bloody vendetta. But if you think all the guests are simple well-wishers, you don’t know the ven. Old vendettas might be set aside, but they are never forgotten and plenty of drunken uncles and smiling cousins would be more than happy to bloody their blades once more. For every old grudge, there is an opportunistic guest plotting for advantage against their enemies…or to start a new romance, which might be the most dangerous activity yet. And that isn’t even including what the “happy couple”‘s illicit lovers might do when they are mixed into the fray…

Wade is a longtime vetran of the Saskatoon LARP scene, being responsible for many years of Saskatoon by Night and more one shots than I care to count, including the immensely successful Firefly games held during the last two falls.  Wade was a headliner at the last two SLARPcons with his Methuselah Club games.  This year, he is offering up a creation based on Houses of the Blooded, John Wick (author of L5R and 7th Sea), which is another game that deserves more attention than it has received.  Hopefully this game will be able to provide some more of that attention.

Fees and Registration:
We are planning the following fee structure for the Con:
$10 per game, $20 for the entire weekend.
Members get in at $10 for the entire weekend.

Be sure to talk to the STs early about characters if you want to be able to play, as there may not be many (if any) characters available at the door for many of these games.  The Fourth Draught is already starting to fill up, and has not even been formally announced yet, Against Themselves currently has a low cap (that will rise if there is enough early interest), and Thicker Blood requires commitment from players or it might not even run.  You want to participate in all of these, so make sure that the STs know that you are interested as soon as possible.

SLARPcon ’10 submissions

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

SLARPcon 2010 will be June 11-13.

We are planning on running 4 games again this year.

The schedule for SLARPcon will be posted once it is determined on March 31.

If you are interested in submitting a game, we would like to hear from you.  Details on submission requirements are found here.  Post your submissions to the forum or send it to us at contact@slarpa.com
